Captain Colby Barlow scored the gaming winning goal off a set stretch pass play with under four minutes to play in the third period, and the Owen Sound Attack held off a late push by the Oshawa Generals for a 3-2 win.
It was strange start to the contest, as the Attack took four consecutive penalties all within the first 12 minutes of the opening frame. After surrendering the opening goal on the Generals first power play opportunity, the Attack were able to kill off the next three, along with generating some quality chances shorthanded.
After a near four week stint on the injured list, goalie Nick Chenard returned to the Attack net and provided a solid performance. Chenard’s night was capped off in the last minute of the game, as he stood his ground on a flurry of General’s chances right at the net front.
With the early game penalties, Owen Sound struggled to get their game going, but a strong penalty kill kept them in the game until they could get into the flow.
It was early in the second period that the Attack broke the ice freezing their game, as it was Ethan Burroughs who went 1-on-3 with a beauty dash and finish to even the game 1-1. Deni Goure needed just 28 seconds after the Burroughs goal to put the Attack in front, capitalizing on the Attack’s second power play of the game. From there the Bears controlled much of the play, showing their dominance over the Generals, but were unable to pull away.
Owen Sound returns to game action tomorrow night when they welcome the North Bay Battalion to the Bayshore. Fans can get their tickets at the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office by calling 519-371-7452 or online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
