Is Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed VR?

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed brings haunted frights and co-op fights as you try to catch a player-controlled haunt. However, can you experience what it’s like to be a Ghostbuster in first person through a VR headset? We answer that question below.

Currently, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed does not support VR. It’s a shame as we’d love to play these multiplayer adventures in virtual reality, but the co-op game will likely bring enjoyment without it.

Illfonic is known for its asymmetrical multiplayer games like Friday The 13th: The Video Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. It has also worked on the 2K title Evolve. The studio is able to take these long-loved properties and make video game adaptations that are loyal to the original product. In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, you create your own character and follow in the footsteps of Raymond Stantz (Dan Akroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson); the actors reprise their roles for the video game.

As you’re capturing ghosts and saving New York from these threats, you’ll be levelling up and getting new cosmetics for your characters. You’ll also be working as a team against the one player controlling the ghost, so make sure to bring your friends along for the adventure.

Despite Spirits Unleashed not supporting any VR headset, there is indeed going to be a Ghostbusters VR game out there in the market.

Announced earlier this year for the Meta Quest 2 and PlayStation VR 2, there will be a Ghostbusters VR game by Shooty Fruity and Far Cry 3 VR developer nDreams. Like Spirits Unleashed, this experience will be co-op and will have you saving the city of San Francisco from many ghostly threats. According to the trailer’s YouTube description, we’ll “solve a gripping mystery in the latest chapter of the Ghostbusters universe.” No release date has been given yet.

There was a PlayStation VR series of Ghostbusters games on the PS4 entitled Firehouse and Showdown, but unfortunately, they are not available to purchase anymore. This is likely due to licensing.
